“BC used to have outdated liquor laws. Caterers were allowed to serve liquor at events but they were not allowed to get a liquor license on behalf of their client or purchase, transport or make a profit from the serving of liquor. Restaurants Canada helped us change that. I had gathered a group of caterers and tourism bureaus to put together a campaign to change the laws so caterers could get their own liquor license. We were building momentum but also hitting road blocks, as we did not know the best way to get our concerns in front of the decision makers. Mark von Schellwitz, the Western Canada Vice-President of Restaurants Canada contacted me and offered to help. He came to a pivotal meeting with the BC Government and the Liquor Board and it was clear that he understood what needed to be done to reach our goal. After a year of lobbying and meetings, it happened! Culinary Capers Catering and Special Events was the first catering company in BC to get the new Catering Liquor License. Thank you Restaurants Canada and Mark! We might have given up without your support.”

“Everybody out there should be a member… Restaurants Canada is a group that listens to its members — the restaurant industry — and it talks to the government on their behalf.”
