(Nov. 27/13) Agriculture Minister François Gendron has confirmed that MAPAQ (Ministere de l’Agriculture, des Pecheries et de l’Alimentation du Quebec) will not adopt Toronto’s red-yellow-green food safety inspection grading system. Instead, he has followed CRFA’s recommendation to increase the quality of information about inspections on MAPAQ’s website by:
- updating it regularly;
- providing information that’s easy for consumers to understand; and
- focusing on those establishments that don’t comply with MAPAQ’s demands after an inspection.
CRFA has long opposed Montreal’s potential adoption of the Toronto system due to the problematic and misleading nature of the yellow grade.
