(Aug. 25/14) Alberta’s hourly minimum wage increases 25 cents to $10.20 on Sept. 1. Restaurants Canada is reminding members to budget accordingly and factor this increase into employee hours worked on, or after, Sept. 1.
Minimum wage rates as of Sept. 1
- General – $10.20/hour
- Liquor Server – $9.20/hour
The liquor server wage, which recognizes the extra income these employees earn in tips, is increasing for the first time since it was introduced at $9.05/hour in 2011. Alberta’s liquor server differential is set at $1 below the hourly general minimum wage.
As part of its annual minimum wage process, Alberta announced the increase at the end of May to provide employers three months’ notice of the new rates.
