(Jun. 25/13) In roundtable discussions with Dr. Kellie Leitch, MP for Simcoe-Grey and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of HRSDC Diane Finley, and other employer, labour and community organizations, CRFA provided feedback on the:
- Canada Job Grant;
- Labour Market Agreements for Persons with Disabilities; and
- Temporary Foreign Worker program.
CRFA explained that our members already employ disabled Canadians, as well as other underrepresented groups in the Canadian labour market. We also showed Dr. Leitch a copy of CRFA’s recent “Hiring Canadians First” report.
When talk turned to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program and government’s proposals to modify it, CRFA stressed the importance of the program to our members. We reiterated that members in areas with acute labour shortages need to have access to foreign workers because no other labour options exist.
CRFA will continue to discuss these issues with federal officials over the coming months.
