After owning a family restaurant for nearly four decades with my parents (who retired years ago), I still love going to work. (OK, most days, I love going to work!) My employees are my extended family. Some of them have been with us for decades.

We also consider many of our customers like family too. People who came in as children, now bring their own children or even grandchildren in. We have a toy area and playground for children to enjoy, while families dine. We are many kids’ favourite restaurant!

Our restaurant has come to be part of many families’ annual traditions. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. We honour special events and have attended many a funeral. We can’t say ‘no’ to anyone trying to raise money for a cause, whether it’s the local swim team, hospital or a simple stag and doe. We’re part of a small, close-knit community, where everyone helps each other.

Westside Fish & Chips Restaurant's famous butter tarts!
Debbie and her mother soak up the sun in front of their family restaurant.

We’ve won the award for “Best Fish and Chips” for more years than I can remember, and our butter tarts and home-baked pies have also taken the blue ribbon in competitions. We update our menu to meet our customers’ needs, and have added gluten-friendly and vegetarian options so everyone can find something to eat. We are so much more than fish and chips. In our last update, we lowered nearly half of our menu prices to help our customers afford to eat out. After 38 years in business, it’s not about the money for us.

You could win too!

Tell us your special moment and you could win a culinary adventure for two to Yukon. Bi-weekly prizes are up for grabs for especially heartwarming stories!
