Federal government not proceeding with stricter blood-alcohol driving legislation

Publié mars 1, 2018

Canada’s foodservice industry was pleased with the confirmation from the federal government that they are not proceeding with plans to lower the legal blood-alcohol limit for drivers.

Last year, Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould proposed lowering the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) criminal limit from .05 to .08. Restaurants Canada expressed concern to the Minstry of Justice and PMO officials that this measure would duplicate sanctions and penalties at the provincial level and would clog up the courts without addressing the primary offenders who are responsible for the majority of alcohol-related fatalities — repeat offenders and hard-core drunk drivers.
