{"id":4664,"date":"2025-02-12T09:48:25","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T14:48:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.restaurantscanada.org\/?p=4664"},"modified":"2025-02-12T10:07:25","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T15:07:25","slug":"psa-gst-holiday-ends-february-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.restaurantscanada.org\/fr\/psa-gst-holiday-ends-february-15\/","title":{"rendered":"PSA: GST Holiday Ends February 15"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-080160888de5cf6d73630505a196b4de\"><em>A message from Restaurants Canada Vice-President, Federal &amp; Quebec<\/em>, <em>Maximilien Roy<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We wanted to remind you that the temporary GST\/HST holiday will\u00a0<strong>end at 23:59PM on February 15, 2025<\/strong>.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Restaurants Canada has been urging the government to make the GST\/HST holiday permanent as it has been very positive for our industry and Canadians.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>We\u2019ve seen\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantscanada.org\/restaurants-see-boost-in-dining-and-traffic-in-first-month-of-gst-and-hst-holiday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>an 18% increase in online reservations<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0during this period, and our industry was able not only to maintain current jobs\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantscanada.org\/foodservice-sector-reaches-highest-employment-since-start-of-the-pandemic-thanks-to-gst-holiday-extending-tax-relief-creates-and-protects-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>but also create 35,000 additional jobs since November 2024<\/strong><\/a>, reaching the highest employment level since the pandemic.\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>We have met with the Hon. Rechie Valdez, Minister of Small Business, Finance Canada and the Prime Minister\u2019s Office to highlight the positive impact of this policy, and we will continue to meet with the government and advocate for the permanent removal of GST from prepared food.\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>While we continue our advocacy work, we wanted to make sure you are ready to transition back to having GST on your menu.\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>We\u2019ve also heard concerns from members struggling to pay their invoices before the deadline, to be eligible for the GST exemption. While we cannot provide direct tax advice, the\u00a0<strong>Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has stated:\u00a0<\/strong><br>\u00a0<br>\u00ab\u00a0<em>Businesses who make reasonable efforts to comply with the legislation will not be the focus of our compliance actions.
