How to pay employees on Nova Scotia’s new holiday

Published February 10, 2015

(Feb. 10/15) Nova Scotia Heritage Day is a new statutory holiday in the province. There are now six statutory (paid) holidays for employees who qualify. Nova Scotia Heritage Day will fall on the third Monday in February each year, starting this year on Monday, Feb. 16.

Paying employees for Heritage Day
Employees who qualify for the holiday get a day off with pay. If employees work on the holiday:

  • they get their regular pay, plus extra pay for the time worked on the holiday; or
  • they get regular pay for the day plus another day off with pay.
