(Jun. 6/13) CRFA and the restaurant industry say goodbye to a dedicated leader and good friend with the passing of former CRFA Chair Dave Barlow on Monday, June 10. Dave was an executive at Cara Operations for 20 years, before moving on to Janes Family Foods and Scores Restaurants. He spent his last few years as an executive coach, helping others realize their own leadership potential.
Dave joined the CRFA Board of Directors in 1997, served as Chair in 2003-2004 and later became an Honorary Fellow. He had a lasting impact on our association, most notably through his tireless work on supply management. Dave was the first to galvanize CRFA on this topic, and established the restaurant industry as a stakeholder on agricultural issues. For example, he argued for access to chicken TRQ (tariff rate quotas) and was instrumental in securing CRFA’s seat on the Chicken Farmers of Canada Board of Directors. On the dairy side, he argued with ministers for equal access to discounted 5A cheese. His personal attention to the dairy and chicken files for more than a decade helped us move forward on these important issues.
