All of Alberta’s licensed establishments are now free to serve liquor on Dec. 25 without having to apply for special permission to do so.
Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis updated its policies on Dec. 16 to allow retail liquor locations and minors-prohibited (Class A) establishments to open on Christmas Day.
The AGLC released an official statement explaining the policy change and its intent to reduce red tape, while supporting licensees with the flexibility to make business decisions that support their operational needs.
This opportunity to open on Christmas Day is optional for licensees.
Restaurants Canada welcomes this move as a sign of more progress to come and looks forward to continuing to work with Alberta’s recently formed United Conservative government on ways to reduce more unnecessary red tape for foodservice businesses.
Over the summer, Restaurants Canada Board Member Leslie Echino, owner of Blink Restaurant & Bar in Calgary, joined a panel appointed by Alberta’s associate minister of red tape reduction to provide direct feedback to the associate minister on ways to reduce red tape for businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector specifically.
