Have your say: Vancouver plastic bag consultation

Published July 23, 2019

In April 2019, Vancouver’s city council asked staff to explore whether the municipality should ban plastic bags and charge fees on paper and reusable bags, similar to the City of Victoria.

Stakeholders are now being invited to share their perspective through an online survey. Restaurants Canada encourages businesses with operations in Vancouver to join in the consultation process and help make sure their voice is heard.

The online survey is available in English and Simplified Chinese, and will remain open until July 30.

Input received through the survey will inform a plastic and paper shopping bag by-law that staff will present to city council in November 2019.

Staff will report back to city council by Nov. 30 with recommended by-law requirements, enforcement, phasing, and education plans for plastic straws, plastic and paper shopping bags, disposable cups, and single-use utensils, following the completion of consultation with stakeholders.
