As of Jan. 1, 2019 the Nova Scotia government is no longer charging businesses formed in other provinces or territories extra-provincial business registration and renewal fees. By doing so, Nova Scotia has become the only jurisdiction to join Ontario in ending the practice of charging businesses extra to operate outside their home province. This move means foodservice operations based outside of Nova Scotia no longer have to pay additional business registration and renewal fees to operate their businesses in the province. This initiative is part of Premier Stephen McNeil’s pledge to reduce red tape and remove barriers to interprovincial trade so that businesses can more easily operate in the province, reach new markets and increase consumer choice. Restaurants Canada applauds this move as a step in the right direction. We look forward to continuing to work with government at all levels toward removing all unnecessary red tape for foodservice businesses so that they can continue to contribute to vibrant, dynamic communities.
