Open letter to Premier Higgs and Minister Wilson calling for continued protection for commercial tenants

Published May 29, 2020

Restaurants Canada has joined forces with industry allies to send an open letter to New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and Small Business Minister Mary Wilson calling for continued protection for commercial tenants.

With June 1 only days away, pressure is once again mounting for small and medium-sized businesses to make their rent payments.

New Brunswick’s business owners have taken some solace in the fact that the province has had protections in place for commercial tenants through an emergency order. With reports that this protection may be withdrawn, business operators are now concerned about being evicted and urgently need government to continue to protect them. Most businesses have not yet returned to normal business volumes so they will have difficulty meeting their rent obligations.

Restaurants Canada has joined forces with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business and the Retail Council of Canada to call for continued protections for commercial tenants in New Brunswick.
