Product recall warning: List of recalled hand sanitizer products continues to expand

Published August 7, 2020

Health Canada is advising Canadians that certain hand sanitizers containing technical-grade ethanol are being recalled from the market because they are not compliant with federal regulations and may pose a risk to health.

The number of products listed in the initial recall notice issued in June is continuing to expand. For the most up-to-date information on all recalled products, please continue to consult the Government of Canada’s complete online list of recent recalls and alerts. Foodservice operators are advised to continue to consult these lists on an ongoing basis and take appropriate measures.

Guidance for foodservice operators

Foodservice operators should immediately stop using any recalled hand sanitizer products, dispose of the hand sanitizer according to municipal and provincial regulations, and address any situation where staff or consumers experienced adverse effects.

While there is no immediate requirement for foodservice operators to notify their suppliers if any previously purchased products have been recalled, Restaurants Canada advises being vigilant when resupplying new hand sanitizer products to ensure new purchases are not also on the list of recalled products.
