Reminder: New workplace harassment rules are in effect in Quebec

Published May 1, 2019

Following a major update to Quebec’s Labour Standards Act last spring, a number of new rules came into effect on Jan. 1, 2019, including an amendment concerning workplace harassment: Employers are now required to have policies to prevent psychological and sexual harassment, including a complaints procedure, and they must ensure these policies are made accessible to all employees.

These provincial labour rule changes build on ongoing efforts by industry and government to ensure safe and inclusive workplaces for all of Quebec’s residents.

Thanks to a recommendation from Restaurants Canada, Quebec’s labour standards, pay equity and workplace health and safety board (CNESST) has created an online hub to help employers navigate all the key information that they need to know about their obligations under the province’s labour laws.

Restaurants Canada encourages all our members to ensure they are complying with the new workplace harassment rules.
