Further to our response to the B.C. budget criticizing the creation of a new job killing health payroll tax, Restaurants Canada partnered with eight other business associations and submitted a joint letter to Premier Horgan and Finance Minister James, urging the NDP government to reconsider implementing the new tax which will negatively impact employers.
The associations state that the new tax will be implemented a full year prior to B.C. medical premiums being eliminated, resulting in many employers paying both the medical service premiums and the new health tax throughout 2018.
The letter also lists a number of other policies, such as the recently announced 34 per cent increase in the minimum wage to $15.20 by 2021, that will increase business costs and make life less affordable for British Columbians.
