The Ontario government has made changes to the province’s energy efficiency programs as part of its commitment to reduce electricity costs for all Ontarians. As a result, a new suite of energy-efficiency programs for businesses will be centrally delivered by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
What does this mean for foodservice businesses?
The Retrofit, Small Business Lighting and the Process and Systems Upgrades programs remain available and are being centrally delivered by the IESO as of April 1, 2019 through to Dec. 31, 2020. Existing applications that have a binding agreement will be honoured and processed through the local utility that approved the application. Questions about the status of applications should be directed to the local utility offering the program.
The IESO is continuing to work with Ontario’s Ministry of Energy on plans for energy-efficiency programming beyond 2020 and is committed to looking at ways that energy efficiency can compete against other available system resources to meet the needs of Ontario’s electricity system at the lowest cost.
