Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick will raise their minimum wages to $11 per hour in 2017.
Newfoundland and Labrador
The province announced two increases to the minimum wage for 2017:
- On April 1, the minimum wage goes up by 25 cents to $10.75.
- On Oct. 1, it rises an another 25 cents to $11.
The minimum wage was last increased on Oct. 1, 2016. Following public consultations, the government wants to establish a method that ties future minimum wage changes to an inflationary measure.
New Brunswick
Fulfilling an election promise, the government of New Brunswick will increase the minimum wage to $11 per hour on April 1, 2017. It is expected to tie future minimum wage increases to an economic indicator, such as the Consumer Price Index.
