New aid available for businesses in Halifax and Hants County

Publié décembre 9, 2020

A one-time grant of up to $5,000 is being made available to support businesses in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and Hants County that have been ordered to temporarily close indoor dining in response to rising cases of COVID-19 in their communities.

Eligible small businesses that received either of the earlier provincial supports — the Small Business Impact Grant or the Small Business Reopening and Support Grant — will be contacted directly with details on how to apply for this targeted extension (Part 2) of the Small Business Impact Grant program.

New businesses or those who did not apply for the previous grant programs will be able to apply online soon.

Key program details:

  • Eligible foodservice businesses include:
    • Full-service, dine-in restaurants (not takeout restaurants or food trucks)
    • Bars or licensed drinking establishments (excluding winery and distillery tasting rooms and craft taprooms)
  • Small business enterprises, non-profits, and social enterprises operating an eligible small business can receive a one-time grant equal to 15% of the business’s revenue from sales for the month of April 2019 or February 2020, as selected by the applicant.
  • Businesses that started after March 15, 2020 are eligible. The grant amount will be 15% of sales revenue for a benchmark calendar month of their choosing, between April and October 2020.
  • Grants are given by enterprise, not by establishment or location.
  • Businesses must be in an area of Halifax County or Hants County where additional restrictions under the Health Protection Act Order were in place from Nov. 26, 2020.
