The board of directors of WorksafeNB has announced that the average assessment rate for New Brunswick employers will increase 15% to $1.70 in 2018. This rate is lower than forecast but means that the funding level of WorksafeNB has dropped from 110% to 100%. Restaurateurs who have wrestled with a 75% increase in rates in the past two years are relieved that the rate increase will be minimized in 2018 but are concerned by dramatic cost increases at WorksafeNB in recent years. Restaurants Canada continues to lobby the New Brunswick government to take decisive action to address the sharp increase in approved claims and claims duration due to the redefinition of a workplace injury.
