(Mar. 21/16) New Brunswick has floated the idea of a new statutory holiday, and Restaurants Canada has expressed our concerns.

Given the poor economic conditions of the province, the timing is questionable. An additional holiday would hurt the foodservice industry in two ways. First, restaurants are usually open on holidays, meaning you’d have to pay premium rates for employees who are working, and holiday pay for those who aren’t. Second, many of you would make fewer sales since it would be a non-working day for other industries.

At a time when the province is struggling, an additional holiday would be another cost for you to bear.
