New immigration rules could pose problems

Published November 17, 2016

Restaurants Canada is concerned with changes to the Express Entry system that lower the value of an accepted job offer. Express Entry allows the government and employers to proactively select skilled immigrants to fill gaps in the Canadian labour market.

After Nov. 19, 2016

Starting Nov. 19, Express Entry’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) will give fewer points for an accepted job offer and more importance to education and training.

Before Nov. 19, 2016

Anyone who accepts a job offer from a Canadian employer is automatically invited to apply for permanent residency through one of the federal economic immigration streams (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Workers or Federal Skilled Trades).

We shared our concerns with these changes in a letter to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship John McCallum.
