(Sept. 24/17) The Nova Scotia government intends to soon introduce legislation for unpaid leave for victims of domestic violence. The unpaid leave of up to 17 continuous weeks and five continuous or intermittent days to:

  • Seek medical attention
  • Obtain victim services assistance, psychological or other counselling services
  • Relocate (permanently or temporarily)
  • Seek legal or law enforcement assistance

To qualify, the employee must be at least 16 years of age and have been employed for at least three months. Nova Scotia is the fourth province to introduce legislation to provide leaves for victims of domestic violence.
