(Oct. 27/15) For nearly two years, the government of Nova Scotia has moved forward with plans to introduce an Extended Producer Responsibility Program (EPR) for packaging, to divert more waste from landfill.
We are pleased that the government recently announced the EPR has been put on hold and will undergo further consultation and study.
Restaurants Canada believes this program would add significant cost without being accountable or transparent. We argued that restaurant operators in Nova Scotia already surpass provincial diversion rates through composting, deposit and recycling programs. We will continue to work with the government to ensure your needs are represented.
