Ontario government hints at early budget

Published February 1, 2018

On January 22, Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa hinted that the government may be tabling a budget earlier than expected due to the upcoming June election.

The government launched pre-budget public consultations to hear from citizens and businesses so their thoughts and concerns could be incorporated into this year’s budget. Last year, approximately 71,000 people took part in the consultation process.

Restaurants Canada submitted a report which includes ways that the Wynne government can alleviate some of the financial strain they are inflicting on Ontario’s small businesses. One of the ideas we are submitting will suggest that the Wynne government should enact a tax credit system to support jobs for first time employees.

The government will hold public consultations and allow submission via email, mail and fax until February 9.
