(Apr. 30/14) Ontario’s hourly minimum wage increases 75 cents to $11 on June 1. Minimum wage rates for students and liquor servers will also rise. Restaurants Canada is reminding operators to budget accordingly and factor this increase into employee hours worked on, or after, June 1.
Minimum wage rates as of June 1
- General – $11.00/hour
- Student1 – $10.30/hour
- Liquor Server2 – $9.55/hour
1. Student wage – This rate applies to students under the age of 18 who work 28 hours a week or less when school is in session, or work during a school break or summer holidays.
2. Liquor server wage – This rate applies to employees who serve liquor directly to customers or guests in licensed premises as a regular part of their work. “Licensed premises” are businesses for which a licence or permit has been issued under theLiquor Licence Act.
