(Nov. 11/14) The Government of Ontario will ban smoking on patios at bars and restaurants as of Jan. 1, 2015.
Patios will now face the same rules as the interior of the establishment, under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. In the new year, inspectors can ticket a restaurant, bar or club if customers are smoking in any part of its premises, inside or out.
Ministry officials say education-based enforcement will take place while customers become aware of the new regulations. Restaurants Canada is urging members to assume enforcement will start immediately, as any fines would go to the establishment.
