(Feb. 19/16) Last fall, Restaurants Canada published the Raise the Bar report card, which graded the provincial liquor systems across the country. Our goal was to urge the provinces to offer you better pricing, selection and distribution.

Ontario scored one of the worst grades in the country, D+, in part because the price you pay for beer and spirits is higher than retail.

Although there’s still a lot of room for improvement, the government has finally moved on a promise from last year’s budget. The province will allow licensees who purchase fewer than 2,046 litres (250 cases) a year from the Beer Store to pay the retail price, rather than the marked-up price.
