(Nov. 11/14) The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has updated its policy on discrimination because of pregnancy and breastfeeding, and launched an education campaign to highlight these rights. Part of this program is educating restaurateurs and staff that a mother has the right to breastfeed in foodservice establishments.

The media has reported cases where a person was asked to go elsewhere to nurse her baby. OHRC told Restaurants Canada these instances are rare, and usually occur because a staff member is unaware of the person’s rights under theOntario Human Rights Code.
