Toronto, March 16, 2016 – Bill Allen, Chair of the Board of Restaurants Canada (formerly CRFA), today announced a leadership transition that will take place over the next few weeks. Shanna Munro, who joined Restaurants Canada as Chief Operating Officer last September, has been appointed President and CEO, effective June 1. She assumes the role from Donna Dooher, who will be reassuming her position as a Restaurants Canada Director.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors I want to extend a sincere thank you to Donna for her leadership over the past year and a half, and welcome Shanna to her new role,” says Allen. Ms Dooher joined Restaurants Canada in November, 2014 and has played a key role in building a stronger connection between the association and Canada’s hospitality community.

“As someone who has devoted my career to this industry, it has been an honour to lead the Restaurants Canada team,” says Ms Dooher. “I look forward to working with Shanna over the next few weeks, and remaining involved as a member and a Director of the association.”

Ms Munro’s career spans more than 25 years in the foodservice industry, including senior positions with priszm Brandz — previously operating as Scott’s Restaurants — where she grew a part-time, hourly position into a senior vice-president role overseeing multiple YUM! concepts across Canada. Ms Munro has also served as President and COO of Putting Edge Corp, and most recently worked with EZ Corp, Inc. as President of the Cash Converters brand retail and financial services, North America.

“Shanna has a proven record as a transformational leader who builds strong and productive relationships,” says Allen. “She will be a great asset to our association and the foodservice industry at large as we join together to foster a strong and united industry from coast to coast.”

Ms Munro is looking forward to applying her years of business experience to Restaurants Canada. “This is a tremendous opportunity to make a difference in an industry I love, and to serve our members across the country who work so hard every day to deliver culinary excellence, create jobs, and contribute to their communities. I can relate to the daily challenges that foodservice owners and operators must confront,” says Ms Munro. “I want to thank Donna for her support during this transition period, and for sharing her perspective as an industry leader.”

Ms Munro is originally from Ottawa and earned an MBA degree from the University of Guelph. She is the mother of two daughters and resides with her husband in Newmarket, Ontario.
