(Mar. 26/14) Restaurants Canada will highlight the important role our industry plays in youth employment to the federal Finance Committee on April 3. The committee will then make recommendations to the government on how to improve youth employment outcomes.
As the top employer of first-time jobs in the country, the restaurant industry has a great story to tell. Restaurants Canada will talk about the important resume-building experience that jobs in our industry provide.. For some, these jobs provide long-term career opportunities, and for others, they are a gateway to the broader labour force. We will also talk about policies that would help the industry’s strong performance as a youth job creator, such as an employment insurance (EI) premium break for new youth hires and a year’s basic exemption (YBE) in the EI program.
