Saskatchewan providing ways to combat workplace violence

Published April 13, 2018

Saskatchewan’s Service and Hospitality Safety Association (SHSA) released a new episode examining workplace violence.

The episode includes tips, ideas and best practices for ways employers can to talk to their employees about to how to best handle a variety of situations that could arise at the workplace and how they can reduce risk and incidents.

“To ensure my staff is safe, every day before service starts, we have a front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house staff meeting and talk about past incidents,” says Saskatoon’s Christopher Cho, General Manager, Ayden Kitchen & Bar. “The way I see it, if they feel safe and comfortable in the place that they work, service is going to be better and sales are going to be better.”

At the episode’s conclusion, the SHSA directs viewers to its preventing workplace violence ‘Have You Done Enough?’ checklist. The checklist helps employees start a dialogue with their employers and provides tips in regard to the right questions to ask to help reduce workplace violence.
