Saskatchewan’s restraint budget maintains status quo for restaurants

(REGINA, June 1, 2016) Saskatchewan’s nearly 2500 restaurants, bars and caterers were pleased that Finance Minister Kevin Doherty’s restraint budget did not include increased taxes or fees that would have further impacted the industry’s already-tight margins.

“Given the challenges presented by the province’s $1.1 billion drop in revenues, we appreciate the approach Minister Doherty has taken in this budget,” said Restaurants Canada’s Manitoba-Saskatchewan Vice President Dwayne Marling. “Restaurateurs are among the first to feel the pinch when the economy tightens, so we welcome the decision not to increase taxes and fees that would have negatively impacted the operations of Saskatchewan’s restaurants, bars and caterers.”
