As part of an initiative to address sewer pipe blockages and back-ups across the region, Metro Vancouver is planning to revise its current Food Sector Grease Interceptor Bylaw 268, 2012. The bylaw regulates the amount of fats, oils and grease that are released into the sewer system.
Metro Vancouver is engaging industry stakeholders to participate in small group meetings to:
- Learn about the problems faced when trying to follow the bylaw, including awareness, understanding, equipment, related fixtures and fittings
- Identify ways to make following the bylaw easier for individual stakeholder groups
- Collect input to improve the bylaw and develop education materials that will help to reduce the amount of fats, oils and grease entering the sewer
