(Apr. 20/16) In a historic victory, Manitoba’s Progressive Conservatives swept to victory over the incumbent NDP Tuesday night. Premier-designate Brian Pallister’s PCs won a record-setting 40 seats. With the NDP holding on to only 14 seats, outgoing premier Greg Selinger announced his resignation as party leader.
Restaurants Canada met with Pallister and his team in the weeks leading up to the election, and will continue to speak with the new government. We asked them to roll back the PST, and they have promised to do so in their first term. We’re also bringing issues like minimum wage, beverage alcohol reform and the labour shortage to the table.
And we’re sharing our industry’s story. Manitoba’s restaurant industry employs 42,300 people at 2,550 units across the province, and generates more than $2 billion in economic activity every year.
