(Aug. 12/14) Restaurants Canada continues its efforts to ensure restaurateurs are not negatively impacted by the introduction of the New Brunswick Drug Plan.
On May 1, Phase I of the New Brunswick Drug Plan took effect, allowing residents of the province to sign up for the provincial program for a defined premium. Next May, anyone in the province without a drug program will be forced into the program.
Restaurants Canada was able to beat back a payroll tax as an employer contribution to the program, but the business community is under pressure to participate. During a recent consultation, we raised concerns about the standard formulary, the impact on health spending accounts, pension plans and pools, and drug listing.
