(Apr. 17/14) Restaurants Canada looks forward to working on our members’ issues with Quebec’s new majority government. Before the election, we asked Quebec Liberal Party leader Philippe Couillard specific industry questions. He promised that his party, if elected, would:
stimulate the economy without raising taxes;
be open to reviewing the alcohol permit system;
review the fiscal package for small businesses, especially payroll taxes; and
provide realistic measures to protect and enhance the use of French.
Mr. Couillard also reiterated that his party had opposed increasing the specific beverage alcohol tax, especially its retroactive nature.
Restaurants Canada met with Mr. Couillard last May to discuss industry issues. We will follow up with him on the above promises once he names his Cabinet.
