Thanks to swift legislative action under the Premier Higgs government, restaurant operators in New Brunswick can expect to see a 13 per cent decrease in the average workers’ compensation assessment rate for foodservice and drinking places in 2020.
This follows three years of significant rate increases brought about by legislative changes introduced under the previous government.
The voice of foodservice has been heard loud and clear
Restaurants Canada applauded the Progressive Conservatives for introducing legislative changes to remedy this situation as their first order of business after forming government in 2018. This was one of the key issues raised on behalf of the foodservice sector during the provincial election.
WorkSafeNB released its provisional average assessment rate for 2020 on Oct. 24, including a breakdown of expected changes by industry.
Next steps
Restaurants Canada is engaged in ongoing work with WorkSafeNB to develop initiatives that will improve safety and continue leading to lower assessment rates.
