Food Prices Are Rising—And Counter-Tariffs Are Playing a Role

August 15, 2025 – With no U.S. trade deal in sight and the August 1 deadline behind us, Canadians and the foodservice industry are feeling the impact of an ongoing tariff situation. Households, restaurants, and food manufacturers are all facing higher costs, and it’s clear that a realistic conversation about counter-tariffs is needed. 

Tariffs Are Here—But For How Long?

Another Pause – But the Threat Remains

March 6, 2025 – As CBC’s Washington-based reporter Alexander Panetta put it, “Being confused by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff plans isn’t a flaw – it’s proof you’re paying attention.” Just before I sat down to write this update, Trump announced yet another pause on tariffs.
