The following information has been compiled by Restaurants Canada to provide an overview of minimum wage rates impacting foodservice operations in each province and territory.

Alberta

General Minimum Wage: $15.00/hour

Student Minimum Wage: $13.00/hour

Effective as of June 26, 2019.

British Columbia

General Minimum Wage: $15.20/hour

Both the general minimum wage and liquor server wage increased to $15.20/hour on June 1, 2021, effectively eliminating the liquor server wage. Effective June 1, 2022 the minimum wage will increase to $15.65 per hour.

General Minimum Wage: $11.95/hour

Effective as of October 1, 2021.

New Brunswick

New Brunswick’s current minimum wage is $11.75 per hour. As of April 1, 2022 the rate will be $12.75 per hour and as of Oct. 1, 2022 the rate will be $13.75 per hour.

On Feb. 10, 2022, the Government of Nova Scotia announced that the province has committed to increase the minimum wage to $15 by 2024 by implementing the following schedule of increases:

  • April 1, 2022: $13.35
  • Oct. 1, 2022: $13.60
  • April 1, 2023: $14.30
  • Oct. 1, 2023: $14.65
  • April 1, 2024: $15
