Restaurants Canada Calls on 2023 Mayoral Candidates to Take the ‘Pledge to Toronto Restaurants’

Publié mai 5, 2023

Toronto’s foodservice community is one of the city’s largest employers; not only does the diversity of Toronto’s food scene represent the diversity within the city, but restaurants also serve as one of the most ethnically diverse workforces where women, BIPOC and newcomers to Canada come to seek opportunity.

No industry was hit harder by the pandemic than the foodservice sector, and the industry still has a long road to recovery. Toronto and its small business owners, including restaurateurs, need a new mayor who will champion the industry. That is why Restaurants Canada is calling on all 2023 Toronto mayoral candidates to take the pledge to Toronto Restaurants and show support for the vibrancy and sustainability of Toronto’s food scene.

By taking the pledge, Toronto’s mayoral candidates will commit to;

  • supporting economic recovery for restaurants;
  • promoting Toronto’s restaurants and neighbourhoods;
  • not increasing costs or red tape on the opening or operation of a restaurant;
  • being consultative and working collaboratively to improve how the city works with restaurants; and
  • improving public safety to keep restaurants safe for workers and guests.

Toronto restaurants cannot afford to take on more costs or red tape driven by government policy.
