On May 2, the Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology invited Restaurants Canada to an event announcing the creation of a three-person Small Business Task Force mandated to hold meetings with small businesses in seven communities around the province in June and receive online feedback from small businesses over the summer on ideas to improve the small business climate and continue strong small business job growth. The Small Business Task Force will hold consultations in the following cities:
- June 6 – Surrey
- June 8 – Nanaimo
- June 13 – Terrace
- June 14 – Prince George
- June 18 – Richmond
- June 26 – Cranbrook
- June 28 – Kelowna
BC members in these communities are encouraged to meet with the Task Force to provide their ideas on ways to improve the small business climate and concerns on issues like minimum wage and the new employer health payroll tax. Restaurants Canada will also be making a submission and looks forward to receiving member ideas and concerns to include.
The Task Force will provide the Minister with a report and recommendations summarizing the small business consultations in the fall. Restaurants Canada will also be meeting with the Minister of Jobs, Trades and Technology responsible for small business in the coming months on Restaurants Canada’s small business growth ideas and policy concerns.
