Restaurant Transactions from Moneris Improve in May

Restaurants Canada is pleased to introduce a new report that tracks weekly changes in net transaction volumes across Canada’s foodservice industry. Based on data from Moneris Data Services, both table- and quick-service restaurants saw an uptick in transaction volume in May compared to April.
On a year-over-year basis, however, same-store transactions at table-service restaurants declined in May, continuing the downward trend observed in March and April.
In contrast, same-store transactions at quick-service restaurants rose in May, building on gains in April. While most provinces saw increased activity, Ontario and Nova Scotia reported slight declines in transaction volumes.
Outlook
Persistent tariff uncertainty continues to weigh on consumer confidence, contributing to regional declines in foodservice activity. Stay connected with our monthly updates to benchmark your restaurant’s performance against evolving industry trends.
Note: The Index of Restaurant Transactions is based on exclusive consumer transaction data provided by Moneris Data Services. Moneris is Canada’s number one payment processor with over 3.5 billion transactions spanning more than 325,000 retail and restaurant merchant locations.
