Restaurants Canada welcomes details of Manitoba’s Business Security Rebate

Manitoba

Restaurants Canada welcomes today’s announcement by the Manitoba government that its Business Security Rebate will provide $2,500 per location to help businesses cover the cost of criminal property damage and make investments to protect their staff and patrons.

This has been a long-time ask by Restaurants Canada and the Manitoba Restaurant and Foodservices Association. We have worked closely with the government to design the program, which was announced earlier this year in the provincial budget, and ensure the eligibility criteria reflect the needs and reality of our industry.

Crime and safety issues are a rising concern for restaurants across the country. Nearly half (45%) of restaurant operators have been directly impacted by crime and safety issues, including vandalism (61%), harassment of staff and patrons (60%), theft (57%) and burglary or break-ins (45%). In response, 55% have increased their spending on security measures.

The Business Security Rebate will help Manitoba restaurants with these mounting costs and is a clear commitment from the government to work with our industry on practical solutions to crime and safety issues.
