As a restaurant owner, you work hard every day to provide customers with safe and enjoyable dining experiences. You rely on and work closely with your suppliers to ensure the products you serve meet or exceed standards for food safety, quality and animal welfare. In Canada, chicken farmers must adhere to a national Animal Care Program that is audited and enforced by Chicken Farmers of Canada. Developed in conjunction with the National Farm Animal Care Council, the Animal Care Program covers issues of feed and water availability, density, litter management, health care practices, bird monitoring and environmental conditions, among other areas. Key features of the program:

  • One mandatory, national standard for ALL chicken farmers in Canada.
  • Includes annual farm audits and enforcement mechanisms in cases of non-compliance.
  • Program is audited by a 3rd party.
  • Program is based on a Code of Practice developed by the National Farm Animal Care Council, with input from farmers, veterinarians, processors, transporters, animal welfare associations and provincial/federal governments.
